Anthony R. Haslage was born in Lorain, Ohio, where he has lived for most of his life. After completing grade school, Haslage worked intermittently up until September 2001. After a year of inactivity, he decided to attend college at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio where he later earned an associate degree in both applied business and the arts. Haslage then attended Kent State University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and later attended the University of Akron where he earned a Master of Public Administration.
From the age of 10, Haslage was engaged in community service. Initially, as a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Haslage was involved in a number of clean-up and repainting efforts. Once his troop disbanded, Haslage became further involved in his community by offering his service to local businesses and organizations. This eventually led to Haslage running for his ward’s city council position where he lost by very few votes.
During his time in college and afterwards, Haslage remained involved in whatever community he was a part. While in college, Haslage spent six years writing for the college newspaper and two years serving on the student senate, in addition to being an officer in a number of student organizations. When he was not involved in college activities, Haslage served as an officer for a number of non-profit organizations. He was responsible for the creation and operation of a number of fundraising efforts. After completing college, Haslage again ran for office, but this time as Lorain City Treasurer.
